In 2013 — motivated by an objective lack of parenting skills, a desire for a more peaceful family life, and a deep love for my two stepchildren — I picked up a copy of Parent Effectiveness Training and took a P.E.T. course in Los Angeles.

I was surprised to find that in addition to improving the way I approached problems in my home life, the Gordon Model skills shifted my professional experience more than I ever could have expected.

From 2007 to 2015, I worked as a game and experience designer with many different studios, including Disney Consumer Products, Microsoft Game Studios, and Sesame Workshop. I enjoyed my work and I enjoyed collaborating with large teams, but I walked away from P.E.T. realizing I’d never truly learned how to communicate!

The skills in Active Listening and the increased value I placed on my own feelings and self-disclosure opened doorways to greater self-knowledge in many areas of my life.

In 2024, I decided to continue my exploration into the many benefits of the Gordon Model by becoming a Certified Instructor for P.E.T. and other programs.
